Poor control a threat to ad industry.
The Association of Indonesian Outdoor Advertising Companies (AMLI) have called on the government to set up a special agency dedicated to supervising outdoor advertisements.

Years of unhealthy competition caused by neglect, mismanagement and corruption in government administration have put the outdoor advertising industry in an impossible position. There need to be a concerted effort to avoid a painful crisis, business players said in a recent meeting with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Nuke Mayasaphira, secretary-general of AMLI, said poor government supervision had led to anarchic deployment of outdoor advertising sites, with opaque permit administration and high costs.

Questions over betting boss”s cash donation for Labour.
Peter Coates made the donation after online casinos, bookmakers and betting websites were allowed to advertise on TV.

In total, the entrepreneur - who is a director of internet betting firm Bet365 - has handed over ?400,000 in five years.

Mr Coates, who owns Premiership football club Stoke City, gave most of the money as ministers pushed ahead with sweeping proposals to liberalise the gaming industry.

Experts who said the advertising explosion would lead to a surge in gambling addiction, and suck vulnerable children into the world of online betting, were ignored.

Miner”s son Mr Coates, whose Bet365 business is worth ?275million - ?100million more than last year - has always vehemently insisted he is a lifelong Labour supporter and was not seeking to influence ministers.more

Concord”s Atkins supports legislation on advertising

Concord”s Atkins supports legislation on advertising.
Recent advertising, whether on radio or through the print media, have been prevalent where vendors announce ‘We will pay your sales tax’ or ‘Sales tax is on the house.’ Under Chapter 64H, Section 23 of the General Laws a $100 fine can be assessed to the vendor for each occasion they advertise this way.

‘Many vendors and business owners have approached their elected officials saying they are interested in advertising that they would be willing to pay the sales tax on purchases to entice customers and that this enticement would increase sales,’ said Atkins. ‘It shouldn”t matter who pays the sales tax as long as it is paid to the commonwealth.’

The legislation filed by Rep. John F. Quinn of Dartmouth would repeal Chapter 64H, Section 23 of the General Laws. The legislation that was filed with the House Clerk also puts the responsibility on the vendors who advertise this way to pay the full amount of the tax due by the purchaser.more

Sonic Boom: Full Of It

October 17, 2009 – 10:05 am

Sonic Boom: Full Of It.
It was in the New York Times” Media & Advertising section, and it focused on a few recent statements made by Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke. In those statements, Yorke suggested that Radiohead would stop conceiving of music in the form of full-length LPs, and instead, release only singles and EPs going forward. In Yorke”s words: ‘None of us wants to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off. I mean, it”s just become a real drag. It worked with [the band”s 2008 album] In Rainbows because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we”ve all said that we can”t possibly dive into that again. It”ll kill us.’

Of course, the thrust of the piece was not the future of Radiohead, but the future of the full-length LP-the general suggestion being that, if Radiohead are doing this thing, it stands to reason that everyone else will soon be doing this thing, too, because Radiohead are not just a great band in terms of making music, but pioneers in the field of distributing music.more
