At that point, the board will decide to either accept the recommendation or re-advertise the position.
The board also declined the recommendation from Miles and the interview committee to hire Wilson for the high school position on a 4-3 vote.
Lyne, however, commented that he was comfortable with the decision as there was another applicant.
The decision was made to re-advertise the position with a closing date of July 8 for applications.
In other personnel matters, the board accepted the resignation of Miles, effective June 30.
‘I want to thank Mr. Miles for all of his hard work and wish his family the best of luck,’ Hirschfeld commented.
‘I want to express my disappointment of losing a quality superintendent,’ Linker stated. ‘It is Holyoke”s gain.’
Linker reviewed a list of accomplishments made while Miles served the district, including the implementation of full-day kindergarten, the addition of a preschool class, the partnership with Head Start, initiation of intervention programs and a contract for natural gas, reorganization of the food service program, and taking the district through a bond issue and building construction and coming in under budget.more
