Call for ban on car “For Sale” signs.
The partys spokesman on transport Tommy Broughan said the signs and phone numbers were in some cases being put on car windows to advertise high-speed races on public roads.

The finding was one of a number presented to the Dil Tranport Committee this week by a group of Transition Year students from S Marys CBS in Tralee.

The project also found that 63.5 per cent of all students surveyed were aware of regular illegal racing in their area.

One of the reports most disturbing conclusions was a finding that in `boy racer culture, cars with `For Sale signs and numbers printed on them were being used to advertise organised races between `boy racers in the local community, said Mr Broughan.

I fully understand that some young drivers have a genuine interest in car mechanics and car racing but it is exceptionally dangerous to have organised racing at excessive speed on our public roads.more
