Sonic Boom: Full Of It
October 17, 2009 – 10:05 amSonic Boom: Full Of It.
It was in the New York Times” Media & Advertising section, and it focused on a few recent statements made by Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke. In those statements, Yorke suggested that Radiohead would stop conceiving of music in the form of full-length LPs, and instead, release only singles and EPs going forward. In Yorke”s words: ‘None of us wants to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off. I mean, it”s just become a real drag. It worked with [the band”s 2008 album] In Rainbows because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we”ve all said that we can”t possibly dive into that again. It”ll kill us.’
Of course, the thrust of the piece was not the future of Radiohead, but the future of the full-length LP-the general suggestion being that, if Radiohead are doing this thing, it stands to reason that everyone else will soon be doing this thing, too, because Radiohead are not just a great band in terms of making music, but pioneers in the field of distributing music.more
